The DNMT2 RNA methyltransferase is a tRNA modifying enzymes with various biological activities and functions. In the DFG funded research group FOR1082, research on this enzyme by nine groups has been funded for 6 years. DNMT2 has been investigated biochemically and functionally in several model species and cell lines including human cells, mice, flies, and different single celled eukaryotes. The results of this combined research efforts are summarized in this review article.
