The bacterial CcrM methyltransferase modifies DNA spezifically at GANTC sequences. This methylation is essential for a-Proteobacteria, a group of bacteria also containing some human pathogens. In a publication in "ChemBioChem", we studied how the CcrM enzyme recognizes its target sites and identigied some amino acid residues that are invovled in this process.
