Regulation of the DNA methyltransferase Dnmt3b

Dr. Renata Jurkowska will be supported with 200.000 EUR in the next two years by the Zeiss Foundation for her work on the Dnmt3b DNA methyltransferase. Methylation of DNA plays an essential role in the regulation of gene expression in mammals. This modification is introduced into the DNA by enzymes called DNA methyltransferases. It is the aim of the project to unravel how the Dnmt3b methyltransferase itself is regulated by post-translational modifications, andhow the generation of methylation patterns is controlled by this process.
