Epigenome editing

Epigenome editing

The BW foundation supports a new research project of Jun. Prof. T. Jurkowski and Prof. A. Jeltsch for 3 years. In this project, we aim to design the RNA and protein components of guide RNA/Cas9 systems to improve its efficiency and specificity for biotechnological application of gene regulation and genome editing. Using this, we aim to develop these systems to introduce methylation marks that are stable over several cell generations and can be used for artificial gene regulation. We will also study the response of the epigenetic network on these switching events. Our study will help to develop the scientific understanding of gene targeting by non-coding guide RNA that will allow a predictable epigenome targeting in future for medical and biotechnological applications.
