Review about Epigenome Editing

This review published in TRNEDS in GENETCIS describes the concept of epigenome editing, which recently got a massive boost by the discovery of the CRISPR-Cas9 DNA binding system. This mansucript introduces the concept of epigenome editing and review its successful applications in the past. Epigenome editing has several important applications in basic research of chromatin biology including the study of our basic understanding of epigenetic marks, their functions, stability and inheritance. In clinical research it allows to regulate the expression of disease related genes providing causative treatments for several diseases. Future developments in this field include concepts to increase the specificity of genome targeting, effective deposition of the chromatin modifications of interest, the means of cellular delivery of EpiEffectors and the need for more clinical studies.
