Retrospective of genome editing research

New publication in "Frontiers in Genetics"

In this retrospective, Prof. Jeltsch looks back on developments in the field of genome and epigenome editing. It describes approaches in the 2000s aiming to achieve a programmable genome addressing, as it is realized today with the CRISPR/Cas systems. The observation of the development of this area of research illustrates that essential scientific/technological breakthroughs mostly result from curiosity driven basic research.
