Patents and clinical trials with DNMT inhibitors

DNA methylation is an essential epigenetic modifcation. Aberrant methylation is invovled in the etiology of many diseases. Consequently, compounds inhibiting DNA methyltransferases are an interesting approach for therapy. In this review patents describing the chemistry and biological activities of novel DNA methyltransferase inhibitors are presented and select clinical studies discussed.
