Imprinting disorders are severe and so far incurable diseases. In this short publication in “ Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics”, we describe a novel concept for the treatment of imprinting disorders which is based on the application of epigenome editing. This innovative technique allows to edit epigenetic information like DNA methylation at defined genetic loci. Combined with the recent discovery of CRISPR-Cas9 DNA recognition domains, it for the first time offers to correct abnormal DNA methylation states in an allele specific manner.
